I remember as a child receiving the school lunch menu for the month and my mom reading it to me and me saying yes or no. She would circle any days that she would need to pack my lunch. I also remember buying my lunch and eating everything that was on the plate… and that was in elementary school. I remember Middle School and High School being better! We were able to go through the line and had options of what we had for lunch.
After I graduated I never really gave any thought to school food again. Then Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution show came on!! This particular clip still stick in the back of my mind on chicken nuggets:
I have to say the Food Revolution really is what started to intrigue my interests in nutrition, especially what I was feeding my kids! My family has been into the natural/Organic/holistic living for about 3 years now. Over the last several months I have heard my friends complaining about their kids lunch, and the kids themselves complaining about the new school food that is now following the new Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act.
I came across this video today and I have to say I found it quite amusing especially after already hearing what some of the kids I know think of school food!!
I would love to hear what your child thinks of school lunches? Is your child starving when they get home from school? Do you pack your child’s lunch?
Stay tuned as I begin to talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act as well as nutrition for kids of all ages! I am also looking for bloggers to team up with for this discussion as well as any parents who would like to talk about school lunches! Be sure to contact me here!
