The best part about being a homeschool family is that we really never stay home! I do have a tentative weekly schedule planned out, but am perfectly willing to changes things up at a blink of an eye! Especially if it is a nice day outside. School work can be done outside around the patio table just as well as it can be done around the kitchen or school table. I quickly learned the first week that the kids need a change of scenery.
Here is my tentative weekly schedule for outside activities.
Monday: Bryson has swim lessons for 45 minutes at 9:45 am. We take swim classes at our local YMCA. We have been members since we moved into our house 5 years ago. I love the swim teacher, she is amazing with all the kids. I especially love that Bryson is to the age and swimming level to get in the pool alone. No more parent/child classes! Ian attends child watch to play during Bryson’s 45 minute class.
Tuesday: This is typically our library day. Our library has an amazing kids section. The have tons of books, DVD’s , and educational resources available. They also have 8 really nice touch screen computers for the kids to work on educational games on! Every week the kids pick out a book and a DVD for the week and get to spend 30 minutes on the computer if available.
Tuesdays are also our day to go out to lunch. A local restaurant offers kids eat free on Tuesdays. The boys love being able to ”go inside” to eat. I personally look at it as an educational experience. They are working on their manners and making decisions. They have to order for themselves as well as have the proper behavior for a restaurant.
Wednesdays: Ian has swim classes at 10 am for 30 minutes at the local YMCA. Ian is still in the parent/child class so I get the honors of swimming with him every week! I am still debating enrolling him in the next session of swim classes. Baby is coming in 12 weeks and I am afraid she may arrive in the middle of the next session, which would prohibit me from being able to get in the pool for several weeks. Bryson attends child watch while I am in the pool with Ian.
Thursdays: Typically Thursdays are a day that we stay home. It gives us a chance to catch up on any school work that needs more attention. We are always open for Thursday play dates. I also find that other things pop up during Thursdays and this is a nice day to run errands if need be.
Fridays: This is typically our ”field trip” day. I love taking the kids to the zoo, museum, farms, and anywhere fun/educational that I can think of. On Fridays we typically set out early in the morning for our field trip and do school work in the afternoon. I am very lucky for all the local fun/educational activities that we have around us! I am going to begin spotlighting these places in upcoming posts!
