We made the decision well over a year ago that we will be homeschooling all of our children.  I spent quite a bit of time looking into our public schools and I know they are not for us.  I am very excited to be starting school in just 13 days and the kids are just as excited!!

Most of our family has been very on board with our decision to home school. In fact we have several teachers in the family who have even agreed with us that public schools just aren’t what they used to be.  I also love that they have volunteered to help with different subjects if we need help or if my kids get board with me!

It seems that it is friends of the family or people we have just met who want to be critical of our decision.  Typically if I say we are a home school family people are following it with ” You better put your kids in sports and other activities to socialize them!”

At first this would make me really mad!  But after dealing with this for a while I have just learned to say that I prefer my kids to be able to socialize with people of all ages and this is something that is taught at home and not by throwing the kids into a room full of kids all the same age!

Here are a few things we keep in mind when we are being criticized about our decision:

1. As the parents we are responsible for our children’s education and because of the area we are in believe this is the best option for our family.
2. The best part of homeschooling is that you never actually stay home!
3. Socialism is taught at home. When the parents are social people the kids will follow their lead. Many people look down at homeschooling because they have either never tried it, or truly know nothing about it!

I personally do not criticize people who send their kids to public school.  Everyone raises their children differently and what works for one family may not work for another.
