I used to think that one good thing about homeschool is that I don’t have to worry about packing lunches or worry about the school food my kids may be eating.  Last week I began thinking about this and realized that I may not have to worry about the kids lunches, but I do need to worry about what my husband is eating!

He has been working on a job site for the last couple of months ( and will continue to be on job sites for over the next year) and I have noticed that he is either eating convenience store/ fast food junk or not eating at all!  As I posted before about cracking down on what my family eats ( check out the post here) I don’t want my hubby eat junk all of the time!

I made the goal to start waking up earlier and packing his lunch. I am completely aware that he is capable of doing this himself, but he has so much stuff going on right now, plus he is by far pulling more weight around the house than I am right now. ( I am blaming the pregnancy!)

I am now on the hunt for new lunch ideas for my husband.  Last week his lunch typically consisted of a peanut butter sandwich and either zucchini bread, chewy granola bars, or a small cup of apple sauce.

I am semi limited to what I can pack for him.  The weather is so hot that I do not want to have to pack anything that will spoil, because I am not sure if it will actually stay cold in this heat.  I also can not pack anything that has to be heated since he has no access to a microwave.

Do you pack your spouses lunch?  I could definitely use some ideas!  Feel free to post recipes/links in the comments section below and share some of your lunch packing ideas!

Hi Lindsay, the cold quinoa salad that I published on my blog yesterday would work! I've made similar things for picnics–it works well because it does not need to be heated, and it won't spoil quickly. :) http://eatmovebalance.com/cold-quinoa-vegetable-s

Hi! I pack my own lunch and I blog it. So do a lot of other adults–it's not just for kids. A good starting point for ideas would be a site I like called bentolunch.net. Every Wednesday, that site hosts something called "What's for Lunch Wednesday," where lunch-packers share their ideas.

Does he like pasta salad? If you use an oil-based dressing, spoiling shouldn't be an issue. What about other kinds of salad? Don't be limited by the green and leafy (those are fine, of course, but there are other options)–think about carrot salad or beet salad or cucumber salad. Throw in some cheese sticks and maybe some beef jerky for protein on the side.

And a lot of other things can be safe, too, if you pack them carefully. My father always took a cooler to work, with frozen water bottles to keep the stuff cold. It worked really well. (And he got to drink ice water.) If it's SUPER hot, use something thicker, like a recycled plastic mayo jar filled with water and frozen–that'll melt very slowly. This works so well, in fact, that I always do it for long trips.
